I'm a recent college graduate from UCLA; my major is Chemistry/Materials science. Ever since I was younger, I've had questions that my parents and my teachers couldn't explain. As I got older, I discovered that the answers were in science... or so I thought. My journey has taken me from the basics of chemistry to an intense dive into the properties of matter. From the illusive quantum world to the mind numbing study of X-ray crystallography and the seemingly miraculous properties of proteins.
As I was learning chemistry, I discovered the best way for me to learn it was to teach it to others. I have been tutoring peers in general chemistry and lower division physics since 2015, in organic chemistry since 2017, and in biochemistry since 2018. The more I talk to others the more I realize that today's academic world has made learning chemistry and sciences unnecessarily difficult. The methods of instruction are often too technical for new students and concepts are never explained thoroughly due to the unfortunate time limits of lectures and academic terms.
After many years of studying and deciphering the cryptic language of the chemists, I believe that things aren't as complex as they seem. Concepts need to be expressed the right way and in the right words. I believe in simple but elegant explanations. I believe in using every day English, instead of the technical jargon of the chemists, and I believe that everyone can understand chemistry if they incorporate the knowledge with their personal learning style. I hope that with this page and with my assistance, you too can come to appreciate chemistry and the sciences much better, and with it, not only gain an understanding of the universe, but also of yourself... after all, we are all made out of matter :)
